Barely spending 24 hours in the seaside town of Brighton, it was an in-between from just being in Paris for a few days getting tattooed and going to Iceland for another adventure. Sadly I was fairly exhausted from recently being tattooed and the non-stop travel that I didn’t get to explore much of the town aside from a few meals. I did make it out to the beautiful Brighton Palace Pier during golden hour and then later that evening, which was damp and extremely cold to make a few photos. Can’t wait to go back again in perhaps the spring or early summer to see what else this place holds.
Read OnAbout 45 minutes by car south of where Sam & Deb live is Como, Italy. Immediately upon crossing the border there’s a sense of being in Italy; Potholes are everywhere! Made me feel like being in Pennsylvania all over again, with the exception of hearing a high revving Ferrari now and again. Founded by the Romans in 196 BC, Como is now mostly known for being the home of George Clooney and other celebrities, none of which I bumped into. The lake is beautiful, even on slightly overcast days and the vibrant color of the buildings are wonderful. We grabbed lunch and then gelato, walked around a bit then headed back across the border to Switzerland. I’d like to revisit northern Italy at some point, mostly to eat more food and gelato but partly because it really is beautiful.
Read OnThe opportunity to travel through Switzerland with a native English speaker was one I couldn’t pass on. Photographer, time-lapse shooter and general n3rd Sam Ferrara, a guy I met randomly, as he filled a position at a job I had left. We stayed in contact and when he moved to Switzerland for love, I joked about coming to visit and shoot the country with him. Turns out it was far from a joke and I got the tour guide of a lifetime! A very affordable flight took me into Zurich for a 10-day adventure, starting with taking a two hour train ride south to Lugano where Sam and his wonderful wife Debora live. They were most hosts and tour-guides for the first half of the trip which started immediately with a sort of off the beaten path waterfall spot Sam had found some time earlier. While in the south of Switzerland, Sam showed me amazing sunsets, a gondola ride to the Aletsch Glacier, largest in all of The Alps, a trip to Zermatt with one of the most beautiful views of Matterhorn, the postcard-like villages of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, and one of the most famous climbing peaks, standing at 13,025′, […]
Read OnSince 2009 or so I’ve wanted to go to Iceland, partly because there were insanely cheap Groupon deals at the time, and mostly because it just seems like a whole other world there. In the fall of 2016 cheap tickets came up (via WOW Air) and I decided to stop procrastinating. Matt joined me on this trip, which was a four-ish day out and back; Our intention was to cover lots of ground every day and leave no stone unturned. The wrench in the plan started to rear it’s ugly face the week leading up to the trip, as the weather forecast was to be overcast and rainy. Early December in Iceland is a crap-shoot with weather, as fall becomes winter in an hour sometimes and temperatures range from mild to sub-freezing with deep snow instantly. We got mild, and wet, the entire trip with a double dose of wind. My expectations were to shoot The Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and my anxiety was missing them, read more about it here. Needless to say, it rained the entire trip with excessive winds. This adventure included stops at the following points of interest; Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Svartifoss, Gullfoss, Háifoss, Jökulsárlón, Reynisfjara black sand […]
