How I spent July 4th - blowing shit up!

OK so today isn’t the 4th, it’s actually the 5th, but whatever, it is still a good time to blow shit up. Matt asked if I wanted to tag along to a friend’s farm where they set off about $7,000 worth of fireworks every year. Who am I to say no. This whole weekend has been muggy and rainy though, so I left all my camera gear at home. Thank goodness for camera phones.

And finally, 15 minutes of fireworks! No one got hurt, we all had a blast and hopefully the weather will be a bit better next year so I can take a real camera out.

Fine art photographer Scott Nichol speaking engagement May 15th

Fine art photographer and friend Scott Nichol will be speaking at the monthly Lehigh Valley Photographers Club meeting on Thursday, May 15th. What’s interesting is that Scott will not only be discussing his photography but also detailing the process he has gone through over the last year or so to produce a very short run, high quality book, in the still air. Press release is as follows:

Scott Nichol is a professional, published photographer whose works have appeared in American Photo and Photographer’s Forum magazines and is a regular contributor to Lehigh Valley Living Magazine. Scott’s fine art photography focuses on figurative work studied mostly in formal studio environments. Last summer, Scott took a step to move his figure photography into the great wide open. It was an adventure that found him in remote forests, lakes, and beaches seeking the seclusion of early mornings when the quality of light was good and onlookers were scarce.

From this series of photographs, Scott has produced a limited edition hard cover book of this work. The book will be produced in an edition of 50 signed and numbered copies. Pricing for this edition will be $125. Selected original signed prints from this series will also be available for $40 each. Orders for the book and prints are being taken at silverystars.com.

Scott will speak Thursday night about the process of producing the book from a photographer’s point of view. He will discuss details of how the how the page layouts were created, how the printer was chosen, and show slides of selected plates from the book.

Scott will be speaking 7pm to 9pm in the Banko Room at the Banana Factory, 25 W. 3rd Street, Bethlehem, PA.
